2021 Giving Tuesday Most Valuable Volunteer

Cary Fender | Seattle

Charity: Mt St. Helens Institute
Nominated by: Emily Halvorsen
About Cary from Emily: “Cary is not just a volunteer for MSHI but she is also a mentor volunteer, meaning that she trains volunteers to be certified to be out on their own. Cary is a mountain and hiking steward for the institute and roves the trails around Mt St. Helens, interacting and educating visitors to the area. She also roves the climbing route and climbed several times this past summer-mostly as a mentor, so others would be certified to volunteer on their own. One of these trips, she took my husband and another volunteer and they witnesses another climber break their leg. She took charge of the situation, made the patient comfortable and radioed in to coordinate with the volcano rescue team. Cary is completely selfless and donated a good portion of her life this summer to making sure other volunteers were well-trained and ready for any situation on the trails. She definitely deserves a well-earned reward for all her efforts.”

We could not agree more- round of axe throwing on us coming soon!  Congratulations Cary, because of your dedication to better your community, this Giving Tuesday Blade & Timber Seattle will be donating $500 to the Mt St. Helens Institute.
